5 Reasons to Hug Your Cat

Did you know that May 30th is International Hug Your Cat Day? We know, you don’t really need much of an excuse to hug your feline buddy. Fluffy is extremely cuddly! However, snuggling your pet is actually beneficial to you both! A local Aurora, CO vet lists some reasons to give your kitty some extra hugs in this article.

Bonding

Kitties like to pretend that they are cold and aloof, but at the end of the day, many of them are actually very affectionate. In fact, studies show that cats think of their humans as ‘parents.’ (Clearly, some of our feline patients think of their people as servants, but that’s another topic.) Cuddling Fluffy will make her feel loved and safe, which will strengthen the bond between you and your pet.

It’s Relaxing

We probably don’t have to tell you how relaxing it can be to hug a purring cat. Settling down with a vibrating kitty and a good book or movie is a great way to wind down after a long day! Fluffy also makes a pretty good sleep aid … at least when she isn’t waking you up by walking on top of you or pouncing on your toes.

Comfort

Our four-legged friends have a special way of offering us unconditional love and friendship. No matter what life throws at you, your furry pal will be there for you, and will be ready to soothe you with kitty cuddles on bad days. Our animal companions also help comfort those who are struggling with anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, and/or PTSD.

Health Benefits

There are actually some amazing health benefits to hugging cats. We all know that stress is bad for us, so it makes sense that the comfort and companionship kitties offer can help combat that. In fact, studies have shown that cuddling Fluffy can help lower your blood pressure and reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Plus, it turns out that our feline buddies vibrate at frequencies that have been shown to promote healing and improve bone density.

Purr Activation

Hugging Fluffy is also a great way to make your furry little buddy feel loved and safe. Don’t be surprised if your kitty starts her little motor up!
